I had a conversation this week with a successful friend of mine who is in a completely different business and industry than me. Polar opposite – nothing the same about them. We were speaking about our journeys, and what struck me was the similarity of our journeys and how our businesses actually went. How when we expect something to happen, something totally different happens. When we believe things are going to go a certain way, they don’t! How so many people in both of our industries drop out.
Which led me to consider this question:
Why are some people successful in their businesses and others not?
So many people let their feelings get in the way of what they’re doing. And I have learned that successful people do what most people aren’t willing to do.
To really be successful one must get comfortable with the idea of being uncomfortable.
Our entrepreneurial journeys stretch us far beyond our comfort zones. I learned very recently about the 5 second rule – this is a psychology thing. So, get this. Within 5 seconds of deciding that something may be a good idea, our brains start to talk us out of it and come up with a million reasons why we shouldn’t do it- 5 Seconds! Our brains want to keep us in that safe zone. They don’t want us to get uncomfortable! So here’s my message to you, and here is my advice to you the next time you have an idea, or you have a thought, or you want to do something – just do it – don’t let your brain talk you out of it. You’ve got five seconds to act on it! So good luck everyone I hope you all go for whatever it is that you want!
